I'm Luuk Meijer, a freelance VFX supervisor & VFX artist with more than 15 years of experience. I help directors, D.O.P.'s, producers and production designers translate their ideas into stunning visual images. In order to get the best results, I enjoy collaborating on projects as early in the production process as possible. My work is guided by the question how each shot helps the story along and I advise how VFX can answer that question. This means I always put the story first, not necessarily the VFX. My solutions can range from completely done "in camera" to fully CG, and everything in between. And, like everything in life, all roads lead to Rome but it can be hard to find the right one. I'm here to make your travel to Rome a pleasant road trip.
My main tools on the road are Nuke, Houdini, Maya, PFTrack, Mocha, Resolve, Shotgun, RV, Speedtree and the whole Adobe CC suite. I both enjoy life in the dark behind my computer and life in the light on set, making the transition from principal photography to post production as seamless as it possibly can be.

Before I went freelance:
During my time at the Media & Arts Academy in Enschede, I enjoyed a very broad education. I learned a lot about a lot of different disciplines, from programming to leading a business and from audio engineering to directing. My main focus however was always film making and postproduction.
After my graduation I worked as an offline editor and motion graphics designer at different companies, before joining Storm Post production in Amsterdam. I started as a compositor and 3d artist, and steadily grew into the role of VFX supervisor leading the VFX team. At Storm I worked on numerous films, commercials, music videos and TV shows.
Since 2015 I have been a member of the board for the NVX, the Dutch association of VFX professionals. The NVX stimulates the professionalization and acknowledgement of visual effects in the Netherlands. We organize social events for Dutch VFX professionals where they can meet and inspire each other.

VFX Supervison
My role as a VFX supervisor is to translate your ideas into visual images. This can be something as a “in camera” solution, to a full CG shot, or something completely in between. I am here to advice you about the best approach.
I manage all aspects of the project, from the first bid, planning and resources to leading the VFX team and finishing the project on time and within budget.
Set Supervision
As a VFX supervisor I have a lot of on-set experience, I have worked with all kinds of cameras, light setups, rigs, and chroma key setups. Moreover, I have worked with a lot of Dutch and international directors and dop's, which makes communication run nice and smooth.
VFX Artist
As a lead compositor and FX artist I have a lot of experience in complex compositing shots, ranging from full CG shots, stereoscopic, clean up, set extensions, integrating CG in real footage, complex tracking shots, FX, dynamic simulations like, smoke, fire, explosions and water.
Network
In my years as a supervisor and due to my role in the NVX my network is extended. For more demanding projects I am able to provide a solution by combining multiple artist to a project. Also I have experience in managing and outsourcing shots to for example India.
